Device is used for determining the adhesion and resistance to damage by scratching in according to ASTM D 2197 “Method of determining the adhesion of organic coatings through scratching”.
The device complies with the requirements ISO 12137-1, ASTM D 5178, ASTM D 2197.
This device is designed for the analysis the resistance of the coating for scratching. The cutting unit with interchangeable intenders is pressing on the surface with load and moves to the predetermined distance.
Depending on the purpose of the testing and the applied load, the degree of penetration of the cutting unit into coating could be different, from the trace on surface to a total destruction of the coating. Device determines the resistance of the coating to scratching.
Modern requirements to the quality of coatings include control of the mechanical resistance of coatings to damage. The one important criterion of its assessment is the hardness of the coatings. For the different requirements there are various methods of the hardness (strength) testing of coatings.
Scratch Hardness Coating Tester NOVOTEST TPP-1518 (ball type) is used for hardness testing of coatings (paint, mastic, plastic and others) through determining the hardness resistance to indentation of the ball tip diameter of 1 mm. Scratch Hardness Coating Tester NOVOTEST TPP-1518 is designed according to ISO6441. Also it is used for testing of the coating resistance to the scratching (ISO1518).
The device can be used on uneven surfaces, surfaces with curvature and limited sizes.
The device has lightweight and can be carried in the pocket, which allows users to use it even during manufacturing processes.
User can set the load force through changing the spring tension and secure it with locking screws.
The instrument is designed to determine the hardness of coatings by pencil leads in compliance with: ASTM D 3363, ECCA T4, EN 13523-4, ISO 15184:2012, JIS K 5600-5-4.
Application
The instrument is widely used for hardness testing of powder and liquid paint coatings. For high accuracy of the results, the lead of pencil should be sharpen under 90 ° angle. The tests begin with the softest pencil leads. If after applying there is no any signs of damage on the tested coating, user will have to repeat the test with one grade harder pencil leads. The MAX hardness value of pencil leads, that leaves no any traces of destruction on the coating, is hardness value of tested coating (for example: 3H, 2H, H, HB, B, 2B, etc.).
Design
The instrument is made of steel, has rectangular shape. There are two castors for movement on the surface of tested object. There is a port through the instrument and thumbscrew for fixation of the pencil at an angle of 45 ° to the tested surface. The design of the device provides a constant load 7,5N (750g) of the pencil lead on the tested coating.
Buchholz Coating Hardness Tester NOVOTEST TB-1 is used for hardness measurements of coating’s using the indentation method (bevelled disc of stainless steel block with constant test load of 500g.).
Buchholz Coating Hardness Tester NOVOTEST TB-1 is standardized to comply to: ISO 2815, BS 3900-E9, DIN 53153, NF T30-052.
The device is to be places on the coating for 30 seconds and the length of any subsequent indentation in the coating is to be measured using the graduated microscope. Using the conversion scale, user can get the result in Buchholz Indentation resistance units.
Erichsen stamp is designed to determine the elasticity and strength of coatings with a bowl-shaped bend (hood coverage for the Erichsen) in compliance to ISO 1520.
The device is designed to determine the strength of coating during indentation of a spherical tip of the punch of 20 mm diameter to the coated test sample, which position is secured on the matrix with internal diameter of 27 mm.
This method is an effective method of determining of the quality of coating, it allows simultaneously to evaluate the strength, adhesion, and elasticity of the tested coating.
The device allows user to accurately measure the strength of coating of the tested product on which static and dynamic loads affect during further operation.
The device allows user to measure elasticity, strength and durability of paint and varnish coatings and its resistance to stretching, cracking, peeling out of the metal surface by pressing the punch with a spherical tip on a certain depth.
The device consists of: steel body, which has two bonded frames; rotary clamping for securing the coated samples; vertical and circular scales for reading the value of depth of indentation of the punches.
Impact Tester STRIKE UNIVERSAL has a multipurpose design and consists of a stand (with a pipe fixed to it with a scale and a clamping device) and an impact device according to the required standard. An impact device, as a rule, consists of a striker, clutch and anvil, the dimensions of which are specified in the corresponding standard. There can be an unlimited number of such shock devices in the delivery set of the device – therefore it is possible to test according to any number of standards, and the device is called – Universal.
Impact Tester NOVOTEST STRIKE U1-4219 is intended for testing the strength of coatings upon impact on pipelines during their installation and operation. NOVOTEST STRIKE U1-4219 allows testing directly on the pipeline and does not require the manufacture of samples.
According the standard, it is recommended to test the strength of coatings upon impact together with checking the continuity of the coating after impact using the Pulse Holiday Detector NOVOTEST SPARK-1.
The instrument measures the elasticity, flexural strength of coatings through rounding the tested sample on the set of cylindrical rods which diameters are from 1 mm to 20 mm.
The instrument complies with ISO 1519-73, extends to coating materials and sets the definition method of elasticity of the film at a bend.
The method consist in the determining the minimal diameter of the cylindrical metal rod, after bending around which, the coating of painted metal plate, does not get the mechanical destruction or de-lamination of single- or multi-layer paint film (ISO 1519, DIN 53 152).
The instrument measures the elasticity, flexural strength of coatings through rounding the tested sample on the set of cylindrical rods which diameters are from 6 mm to 25 mm.
The device allows to measure the elasticity and strength of coatings through bending the metal plate with tested coating applied around a set of cylindrical rods with diameters of rods from 2 mm to 32 mm (other diameters on request). The device complies with ISO 1519-73 and applies to paints and specifies a method for determining the elasticity of the film during bending. The method consist in the determining of the minimum diameter of the cylindrical metal rod, after bending around it, the painted metal plate, does not get the mechanical destruction or delamination of single- or multi-layer paint film (ISO 1519, DIN 53 152). Flexibility is tested by rounding the tin plate with coating around the cylindrical rod with diameter from 2 to 32 mm. The flexibility value of coating with certain film thickness – is the smallest diameter of rod, when cracking does not occur.
Bending Coating Tester NOVOTEST BEND IR is the instrument which consist of the frame with fixed clamps for tested samples and a special mechanism for rounding plates around the rod with different diameters. Pre-prepared tested sample is placed between the clamps and secured by rotating the handle. After that push the tested object to the top of rod by rotating the handle and bending the plate around the rod.
The NOVOTEST BEND IK is used to determine the elasticity or resistance, adhesion and elongation of coatings on sheet metal in accordance with ISO 6860, ASTM D 522-A, BS 3900-E11, ECCA T7.
