Surface sounding probe for NOVOTEST IPSM

Probe is designed to operate with Strength meter NOVOTEST IPSM and Ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) testers (some other brands) for finding defects in concrete products, bricks and other solid materials based on the analysis of the propagation of ultrasonic waves in the material.

 

Additionally various probes allows to measure different parameters of concrete products such as density, strength, elastic modulus, sound index and other parameters that correlate with a propagation of ultrasound in the material.

Surface sounding probe with conical protectors that concentrate entrance of the ultrasonic waves on the tip of the protector, and their ultrasonic waves travel along the surface. Surface sounding probes do not require any couplant to work properly. The two probes are fixed on the handle, which allows to fix the base distance (±120 mm) between two probes.

Calibration block for surface-sounding probe is included into the standard kit.

As the name suggests this probe is normally used with one side access to the tested subjects directly on the surface. Additionally this probe is perfect for detecting surface cracks and measuring their depth. The principle of measuring crack depth is simple – the ultrasonic wave goes from the transmitter to the receiver by the shortest route, and if there is a crack between the transmitter and receiver the ultrasonic wave goes around it, increasing the time sound passing value and this way calculate crack depth. Strength meter NOVOTEST IPSM (UPV tester) has 1 mode for crack detection (A-scan) and 2 separate modes for measuring crack depth.
